Key frame illustration
This project was set in my first year of Game Art as our concept project. Working from our own character design, or ones from an existing game, we had to create a keyframe illustration. I decided to use original characters I already had for the basis of my project.
First iteration

The first few concepts I went with had a western cowboy style, much like many of the books and games I was into at the time I wanted to make something that would fit into those. I ended up going with the shot of the person reaching out of the train car, as I felt it showed the story and flow of the image much better than the others.

Final painting 1
This was the final version of the image after a few different attempts. Though I thought it was okay, overall I wasn't particularly happy with the style and the shading. So I decided to turn away from this and start again, so I could submit something I was happier with.

First concepts
I had started with a few rough ideas that I narrowed down to these. I decided to go with the left, as I found that the over all perspective and tone fit what I wanted to create a lot better than the other.
Final Piece
This was the painting I ended up submitting. Personally I think from the textures, to the lighting and the perspective it generally it is a lot better than my first attempt. Though there are things I would do differently this time. I think it still holds up as a solid first try at this kind of painting.
